The Japanese Garden

Japanese Garden

Japanese Garden

This Skakkei garden (borrowed scenery) is a new addition and is the result of detailed and careful planning following a visit by Ray and Shirley to the very beautiful gardens of Kyoto in Japan.
While in Japan they were able to study different forms of gardens and were lucky to obtain plans of one that they enjoyed.

They also visited the Kyoto Botanical Gardens and made friends with one of the English speaking gardeners who, after hearing they were going home to build a Japanese garden, offered any seed of the plants in his section. On returning home, the seeds arrived and now a list appears every year for Shirley to choose from and, as a result, nearly all of the plants in the garden are from seed obtained in this way. A list of these plants can be seen in the Summer house.

A very clever bespoke builder was given a brief to build a Japanese summer house for this garden. He found plans on the Internet of a 17th century summer house which has been completed and erected on site. It is placed to take in the wonderful view of the lake and parkland.
