The Winter Garden
This garden is being created in memory of Shirley's brother. It's been 'work in progress' since January 2006 - a definite 2-year project.
Now that the Gardens are open all year, Shirley thought that it would be a good idea to plant a garden; " . . .. with Winter in mind. So I stole a piece of parkland, 3 acres in total !" .
"I designed it like a rose the paths spiralling away from the centre boss so there are plenty of curves - no straight lines. All the plants have either winter flowers, good bark, good coloured foliage or lots of scented leaves. There are many heathers, hundreds of bulbs and some very unusual evergreen trees".
